Zakk Peryea, a 4-year-old from Fairbanks spends winters in Anchorage. He was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2015. For the last two years, Zakk has been bravely battling his cancer. He spent several weeks in pediatric ICU, and eleven months in long-term oncology housing receiving the first two stages of chemotherapy. In June 2016, he started a maintenance phase of chemotherapy and was able to come home, flying to Anchorage for treatments. He’s into the second year of maintenance chemo, and while he’s really struggling with the side effects of long-term chemotherapy, he somehow stays super brave and so positive.
